Hallo,

Zitat:S&P also cut its A rating on ACA Financial Guaranty Corp. to CCC,
suggesting potential default. Toronto-based Canadian Imperial Bank
of Commerce said today it may have $2 billion of writedowns on
U.S. subprime mortgage securities it insured through ACA.

Tja, die Finanzversicherer. #1 ist damit erledigt. Der Rest folgt.
Zitat:Bear Stearns Cos. and Merrill Lynch are among several major banks
in talks to bail out ACA, the New York Times reported today, citing
two people familiar with the situation.

``Effectively by bailing out the monolines, they're bailing out
themselves, because the hedges they thought they had with them aren't
really hedges,'' said Toby Nangle, who helps oversee $37 billion
as head of global aggregate business at Baring Asset Management
in London.

Hm, sind Bear Stearns und Merrill Lynch wohl verzweifelt?

Zitat:Nearly 12 percent of Americans say they will need to borrow money to
pay winter heating bills; 9 percent will need to use credit cards
to be able to afford their heating bills. The poll, commissioned
by CreditCards.com and conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs &
Media, surveyed 1,004 randomly selected American adults by telephone
Dec. 7-9, 2007 to gauge their attitudes about energy costs in 2008. A
majority say they expect oil and gasoline prices to get worse in 2008.

Aeh?

Zitat:Another foreclosure record was set in November as 1,336 properties
were offered to the highest bidder on the courthouse steps in Modesto,
Merced and Stockton.

Now here's the real surprise: Only 17 of them sold, despite lenders
offering deeply discounted prices.

[...]

"Investors at auctions typically will buy at a 30 percent discount
to market," explained Sean O'Toole, who owns ForeclosureRadar. "So
lenders are trying to give as much of a discount as possible to
entice investors to buy."

Zitat:The average London asking price fell 6.8 percent to 384,632 pounds
($774,000) from November, the largest decline since the survey of
real-estate agents' listings began in 2002, Britain's most-used
property Web site said today. Across the U.K. as a whole, home costs
dropped 3.2 percent, also the most on record.

Zitat:The Government must suspend a set of key banking regulations at the
heart of the current financial crisis or risk seeing the economy
spiral towards a future that could "make 1929 look like a walk in
the park", one of Britain's leading economists has warned.

Peter Spencer, of the Ernst & Young Item Club, said conflicts caused
by the Basel system of banking regulations, which determine how much
capital banks must raise to keep their books in order, are the root
cause of the crunch and were serving to worsen the City's plight.
